ODDS_API_KEY is not set, so no price here came from a book. Every price field reads SAM-FILL and nothing is graded. The analysis below is built from injuries and projections, which ARE real — that half does not need a price to be worth reading.
This is a data feed, not the official inactives sheet, which lands about 90 minutes before kickoff. Strong evidence, not final word.
| Market | Quoted | What to watch |
|---|---|---|
| Lions spread | −3.5 (−114) | 3.5 is the right side of the key number. 3 is the modal NFL margin, so −3.5 costs you the exact-3 push and −3 would be a different bet. If it moves to −3, that is better; if it moves to −4, meaningfully worse. |
| Total | 51 | High. That is the number the lean below is built around. |
| ML DET | −189 | Implies about 65% — roughly fair for a 3.5-point favourite |
| ML CAR | +155 | Implies about 39% |
These are Sam's numbers,
not a feed. ODDS_API_KEY is still unset, so nothing on this page is graded
and nothing goes in the ledger until he logs what he was actually offered.
| Pick | Quoted | Logged | Reasoning |
|---|---|---|---|
| SameSHOT — Lions −3.5 lead | −3.5 (−114) | log it | The Panthers receiving corps is the argument. Legette is on IR — confirmed in the injury list above, straight off the feed, not from the brief — and Coker is limited. A depleted passing game against any defence is a hard way to keep pace with Detroit. Hold the 3.5; do not chase it through 4. |
| McMillan (CAR) OVER 70.5 rec yds sharp | SAM-FILL price | log it | This is the cleanest thing on the card, and it is not a contradiction of the side. With Legette out and Coker limited, McMillan absorbs the target share by default — and he is facing the worst pass defence in the league by yardage. Volume plus a soft matchup is exactly what a receiving-yards over wants. It wins even if Carolina loses, which is the point. |
51 is a high number, and the temptation is to take the under on a Panthers offence missing its receivers. Resist it: Detroit is the worst pass defence in the league by yardage, which is the single strongest argument AGAINST an under. The two halves of this matchup pull the total in opposite directions and the book has priced that.
So the edge is in the distribution, not the sum. Detroit covering and McMillan eating volume are both consistent with a 31-20 game that sails over 51 and with a 24-13 game that stays under. Neither pick needs the total to land a particular way — which is why they are the picks and the total is not.
The Lions side and the McMillan over are mildly opposed — a Carolina receiver going for 90 yards is more likely in a game Carolina is competitive in. But garbage-time volume cuts the other way: a team trailing by two scores throws more, not less, and McMillan is who they throw to. Weak negative correlation at worst, unlike the Steelers card where the under and the moneyline were one story. Staking them separately is reasonable; a same-game parlay of the two would be priced for the correlation.
Per the brief, the boost goes on the Lions. Worth noting what that costs relative to the alternative, since a boost multiplies PROFIT and so pays more on longer odds:
| 30% boost on | Profit per $100 | Boost worth |
|---|---|---|
| Lions −3.5 (−114) | $88 → $114 | about $26 |
| McMillan over, if it is plus money | more — a +120 prop would return about $36 of boost on the same stake | |
So if the McMillan price comes back plus money, the boost is worth more there — and it is the pick with the stronger reasoning. Sam's call; the arithmetic is here rather than the conclusion.
