# Blue Jays — Handoff to Fresh Planning-Chat (2026-05-28 evening)

> Session 2 burned its image budget before the nested-tier approach was fully validated. Sam is handing the print to a fresh planning-chat with clean image budget to land the final.

- **Pivot:** session 2 abandoned the **terraced height-stack** (FINAL_v2 → v3 → v4) after v4 was still producing mangled geometry at interlocking color boundaries — chunks, slants, eye in wrong position, light blue extruding above its layer, top-down view not matching the designer's preview. Approach switched to **nested-tier extrusions**: each subsequent filament covers a smaller XY footprint as an opaque overlayer, no per-region height conflict.

- **Canonical print sequence (Sam's articulated spec, carry-forward):**
  - Phase 1 — **White** filament, Z = -7 to 2: base + outline + bail loop
  - Phase 2 — **Dark Blue** filament, Z = 2 to ~4: prints DB region + LB region + RED region (all in DB until opaque)
  - Phase 3 — **Light Blue** filament, Z = 4 to ~5: prints LB region + RED region (both in LB until opaque)
  - Phase 4 — **Red** filament, Z = 5 to ~7: prints RED region only
  - Total: **3 manual M600 swaps** at Z = 2.0 / 4.0 / 5.0. Total pendant thickness 14 mm.

- **Why fresh chat:** session 2 image-rendering budget exhausted by matplotlib top-down renders + designer-image overlays + label iterations. Fresh chat starts with `bluejays_NESTED_TIERS.3mf` + the print-sequence spec + `FRESH-CHAT-HANDOFF-PROMPT.md` (all in Sam's Downloads).

- **What comes back:** the final `.3mf` (visual-verification + print-geometry pair), confirmed swap Z heights, Bambu Studio instructions for manual-filament-change configuration and per-swap pause heights.

- **Substrate canonical until then:** **commit 2f0e6fc** (`bluejays_FINAL_v2.3mf` + `bluejays_FINAL_print.3mf` in the workdir, terraced approach). Session-2 iterations (FINAL_v3, v3_print, v4, v4_print, NESTED_TIERS, plus 4 PNG renders) are intentionally **not promoted** — they remain quarantined in Sam's Downloads as planning-chat working files.

- **Tooling note:** planning-chat now also has **shapely 2.1.2** + `trimesh.section` available. Added to the bambu-a1 dossier `## Tooling` section. Multicolor-without-AMS reference guide v1.2 fold-in still deferred until the print actually lands.
