# Blue Jays Mesh-Edit Checkpoint — 2026-05-28

> Checkpoint save, **not** print-ready. Sam paused to do todo review + recalibration; will return to finalize.

- **Project:** `personal/bluejays-necklace-print-2026-05/`
- **Capability unlocked:** planning-Claude can programmatically edit .3mf meshes (vertex Z-remap by region, paint_color retag, region terracing, top-down render verification via trimesh + lxml).
- **Approach saved:** terraced Z-bands (W → LB → RED → DB at Z = 4.0 / 5.0 / 6.0) reduces ~80 AMS-era swaps to **3 manual swaps** on A1-no-AMS. Top-down render is a 98.3% match to the original logo; the small bottom strip where leaf-over-tail shows dark-blue instead of red is acceptable per Sam.
- **Files in workdir:** `bluejays_FINAL_v2.3mf` (visual, with paint colors) and `bluejays_FINAL_print.3mf` (geometry only, for actual printing). Intermediate iterations (zbanded/thincap/test_remove/etc.) intentionally **not** promoted to repo.
- **Sam's note (12:30 PM):** *"still not exactly what i need but i need to come back to it later."* Refinement spec TBD on return — candidates: band thicknesses for opacity tuning, interlock handling at specific seams.
- **DO NOT:** start the print, mark the project complete, promote intermediate files, or bump multicolor-without-ams reference to v1.2 (avoid claim/reality drift — wait until the print actually lands and learnings are real).
- **Resume:** see intake.md §"Mesh-editing optimization (2026-05-28) [CHECKPOINT - not final]" for the full state dump.
