**Project:** Boston Celtics Necklace 3D Print
**ID:** celtics-necklace-print-2026-05
**Kind:** personal-project
**Opened:** 2026-05-29
**Owner:** Sam (Same Solutions)
**Status:** 🟧 **IN-PROGRESS** — live print on Bambu A1, 2026-05-29

## Origin

- **Recipient:** Jarod (Denise Donlin's son)
- **Deadline:** **2026-06-07** (Jarod's birthday) · T-9 days from start of print
- **Series:** Donlin medallion series — 2 of 4 (Blue Jays done 2026-05-28, Celtics now, Bucks + Steelers pending for Luke)
- **Customer hub:** [/personal/3d-printing/projects/donlin-team-medallions/](../../personal/3d-printing/projects/donlin-team-medallions/index.html)

## Hardware

- Bambu Lab A1 (single nozzle, no AMS)
- Manual multi-color via pause-and-swap (M600)

## Source

- Sam-found design — **not** the AMS-designed `.3mf` that the planning-chat mesh-editing workflow would have started from.
- Sam did his own edits and started directly on the printer.
- Source file currently in Sam's Downloads — **to be copied into this workdir after the print succeeds** (per "validated source-of-truth" rule: don't promote a working file until the validation is real).

## Method

**Manual-multicolor terraced-tier method**, darker-on-top order. The Celtics logo (clover + wordmark variant Sam selected) is a nesting design that fits the v1.2 procedure cleanly.

Per the canonical reference:
[`personal/multicolor-without-ams-reference-2026/print-guide.html` v1.2 §13](../../personal/multicolor-without-ams-reference-2026/print-guide.html#v12update)

### Pause schedule (canonical, validated layer-height formula)

Layer height **0.2 mm**. Pause-rule formula: pause on first layer of new color = `(boundary plate-Z / 0.2) + 1`.

| Swap | Layer | Plate-Z | From → to |
|---|---|---|---|
| 1 | **L24** | 4.6 mm | Grass green → White |
| 2 | **L28** | 5.4 mm | White → Black |

Order is **darker-on-top** per the v1.2 tier-order tradeoff: vivid grass green sits as the LOWEST color tier (directly on white base), opaque black caps the top. This avoids the muddy-stack risk you'd get if green were stacked above black, and gives clean side-walls because the visible top surface is one dark color. Tradeoff: the green sits slightly recessed — you see it through a "window" of black surface around the outline.

### Filaments

| Color | Brand / type | Status |
|---|---|---|
| Grass green | Sunlu PLA+ | new full roll (per inventory-update rule, assume full 1000 g start; weight TBD after print) |
| White | Sunlu PLA+ | continuing from Blue Jays roll (subtract ~30–40 g estimated for Blue Jays; weight TBD) |
| Black | Sunlu PLA+ | new full roll (assume full 1000 g start; weight TBD) |

All weight figures are ESTIMATED until Sam drops slicer-reported values. See `personal/3d-printing/filament-inventory.md` + `filament-status.json`.

## Why this didn't need planning-chat mesh editing

The Blue Jays print needed planning-chat involvement because the source `.3mf` (Salvadori3D / MakerWorld) was AMS-designed with interleaved per-layer paint across ~80 toolchanges, AND the logo interlocked (jay beak in front of leaf, leaf behind tail). Neither could be solved with slicer-level pause edits alone — the mesh itself had to be re-geometryed into nested Z-tiers (FINAL_v2 → … → NESTED_TIERS through fresh-chat-handoff).

Celtics is different:
- Sam picked a source design that's already mostly-nested (clover + wordmark) — no interlocking-geometry surgery needed
- The 3-color sequence (green → white → black) maps cleanly to two M600 pauses at fixed Z heights — Sam can set them in Bambu Studio's manual-filament-change config directly
- No planning-chat involvement; this is a lower-friction mode of the 3-way collaboration (Sam ↔ planning-chat ↔ CC).

This is also a worked example of the v1.2 guide §13 D method-scope: the terraced-tier method works on nesting designs without per-region mesh surgery.

## Awaiting from Sam

These are owed back to substrate once the print succeeds; surfaced here so they don't get lost:

- [ ] **Source `.3mf` (or STL) file** — copy from Sam's Downloads into this workdir
- [ ] **Slicer-reported filament weights** (Bambu Studio "Sliced Plate" panel) — to refine the inventory estimates from "ESTIMATED" to actual
- [ ] **Print-time actuals** (Bambu Studio estimate + real wall-clock)
- [ ] **Photo of finished Celtics medallion** (optional — for the worked-example record + the Donlin customer hub)

These for the Donlin series broadly (also surfaced in `personal/3d-printing/projects/donlin-team-medallions/`):

- [ ] **Bucks** source `.3mf` (Luke's set — search needed per Donlin hub)
- [ ] **Steelers** source `.3mf` (Luke's set — TheHueforgeLady's MakerWorld model flagged as best candidate but needs verification it's medallion-form, not wall-sign)

## Status updates

- 2026-05-29: project scaffolded as IN-PROGRESS at the moment Sam started the print. Source file Sam-selected (not the AMS-designed flow Blue Jays needed). 3-color darker-on-top terraced-tier method, swaps at L24 / L28. Validates the v1.2 guide procedure on a second design. Source `.3mf`, slicer weights, and post-print photo all owed back once the print completes.
