⚠ The ONE thing to check first — does the grill have its OWN regulator?
Everything in the propane section below forks on this single question: does the DDR HT 400 have a built-in regulator? A 1 lb disposable bottle is unregulated, high pressure; an appliance burner needs regulated, low pressure. So:
No built-in regulator (it relied on the RV's regulated supply) → you need an adapter/hose WITH a regulator.
Has a built-in regulator → use a PLAIN adapter (no second regulator — two in series starves the burner and it won't light).
✅ CONFIRMED 2026-06-08 (Sam): the grill HAS its own regulator — its control knob is an on/off + min/med/max regulator. So this is the "has a regulator" case → buy a PLAIN 1 lb adapter, NOT a regulated one (a second regulator in series would starve the burner and it wouldn't light). Remaining to verify: the grill-side quick-connect gender/thread before ordering.
Section 1 — Run the grill on 1 lb propane camp bottles
Goal: an adapter/hose from a 1 lb disposable cylinder (the green camp bottles, 1"-20 throwaway-cylinder thread) to the grill's RV 1/4" quick-connect fitting. Which part you buy depends entirely on the regulator answer above.
The decision gate
✅ CONFIRMED — this grillBuy a PLAIN adapter (no extra regulator). The DDR HT 400 has its own regulator (confirmed 2026-06-08), so just adapt the 1 lb bottle thread (1"-20) to the grill's quick-connect — the grill's own regulator does the work. Do NOT add a second regulator: two in series drop the pressure too far and the grill won't get enough flow to light.
Not applicable now(If the grill had NO regulator) you'd instead buy a hose with a disposable-cylinder (1 lb) port + a built-in regulator on one end and the grill's 1/4" quick-connect on the other. Not this grill — kept for reference only.
Product options (both cases) — brands & sources
The category to search is the "RV/grill 1/4" quick-connect to 1 lb throwaway bottle" adapter/hose: 1"-20 throwaway-cylinder thread on one end, 1/4" quick-connect on the other. The plain vs regulated version is what differs.

Category typically runs ~$15-30 — confirm the exact part + price. Sources: Amazon, Walmart, etrailer, propanegear. SAM-FILL: chosen part # + price once the regulator question is answered.
⚠ Match the quick-connect GENDER + thread
Sam's existing pigtail has both a male AND a female quick-connect end. Before ordering, SAM-CONFIRM which end mates the grill vs the supply line, so the new adapter's QC gender (and thread) matches the grill-side fitting. A mismatched gender won't connect.
Practical notes
Runtime: a 1 lb bottle runs a 400-class grill for a limited time — expect frequent bottle changes on a longer cook.
Refillable 1 lb bottle is an option to cut cost + waste (refill from a 20 lb tank). SAM-FILL: refillable bottle choice/price if going that route.
Safety
Regulate before the appliance: NEVER run an unregulated 1 lb bottle straight into an un-regulated burner.
Leak-check every connection with soapy water (look for bubbles) before lighting, every time you swap bottles.
Connect/disconnect with the bottle valve OFF; work in open air, no ignition sources.
Section 2 — Mount the grill to the pontoon side rail
Two paths. Path B (universal rail clamp) is the more reliable one given the OEM bracket may be hard to find.
Path A — OEM DDR HT 400 RV mounting bracket
May be discontinuedSearch for the original / replacement DDR HT 400 RV bracket. DDR-branded RV grills are obscure and may be discontinued, so the OEM bracket may be unavailable.SAM-FILL: OEM bracket part # + source IF found; otherwise flag discontinued and use Path B.
Path B — Universal pontoon rail-clamp mount (recommended)
A rail-clamp mount clamps to the pontoon rail and gives you a plate/post to adapt the grill's bracket to. This is the dependable path. Example categories/brands: pontoon grill rail mounts — Arnall's, Camco pontoon grill mount, and generic rail-clamp mounts.
⚠ Path B needs TWO measurements from Sam before buying
These two measurements determine which rail mount + any adapter plate will fit:
The pontoon RAIL profile + size — square tube or round? the dimension / diameter. SAM-FILL.
The grill's MOUNT INTERFACE — what the folding-stand bracket bolts to / slots into (tab, post, bolt pattern). SAM-FILL.
Approach: rail-clamp → mounting plate/post → adapt the grill's existing bracket to it. Given Sam's shop capability, a simple adapter plate he fabricates may bridge the rail-mount post to the grill bracket's bolt pattern. SAM-FILL: exact rail-mount part + price once the two measurements are known.
Safety / clearance
Heat clearance: mount so the hot grill + lid clear the rail, seats, and people; add heat shielding if it sits close to anything.
Thin-wall rail: pontoon rails are often thin-wall aluminum — the clamp must not crush the tube; spread the clamping load (wide clamp / backing) so it can't deform or work loose.
Mount it so it can't swing/tip while underway; check tightness before each use.
